A trail in Iowa is quite illuminating — literally.

The 2-mile long trail in Vinton, Iowa, is the longest glow-in-the-dark trail in the U.S. and possibly the world.

"We kind of have always joked that we had a sidewalk to nowhere, well now we have a sidewalk to somewhere," Vinton Parks and Recreation Director Matt Boggess told KCRG-TV.

It looks like a normal path during the day, but at night, there are 3,000 pounds of glowing stones that illuminate the path and run on solar power. The stones can glow for up to 15 hours at a time.

The trail is named after Nathan Hesson, a Vinton city councilman who was a big supporter of the trail, the TV station reported. The 37-year-old died in January.
