In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you’ve probably noticed deposits of luminous stones as you’ve wandered around Hyrule at night. They’re glowing ore deposits that are kind of hard to miss. It’s a little harder, though, to figure out what you should use them for. In this guide, we’ll tell you where to find luminous stones and what you can use them for.

There are a few locations in Breath of the Wild that are full of luminous stones, and there are two tricks that will make luminous stones even easier to collect. First, look for them at night — like the name suggests, they glow in the dark. Second, use an iron sledgehammer to break the rocks they’re hiding in. If you don’t have one, the easiest one to find will be leaning against your house. Assuming you’ve completed the ‘Hylian Homeowner’ side quest, one will respawn here with every Blood Moon.

Just north (and a little west) of where Divine Beast Vah Ruta settles, there’s an outcropping of rock with a few deposits of luminous stones.

The two shrines on either side of the Yiga Clan hideout each have several deposits around them. Travel to Sho Dantu and Kuh Takkar shrines to collect your luminous stones.

By far, the densest deposits of luminous stones are along the east side of the Dracozu River valley. Travel to Faron Tower and paraglide your way north. Along the cliffs and ledges on the eastern wall, there’s a long line of deposits just waiting for you to claim.

There are only a few uses for luminous stones. It’s tempting to sell them for 70 rupees, but there are cases where you’ll want (and need) a bunch of them.

After you defeat Divine Beast Vah Ruta, there’s a Zora named Ledo you can speak to in Zora’s Domain. Ledo will trade you two diamonds for 10 luminous stones (and then one diamond for 10 on subsequent visits).

You can do this as many times as you want if you need diamonds — like to reforge the lightscale trident — but the exchange doesn’t work in your favor when it comes to rupees. Luminous stones sell for 70 rupees each, so 10 of them would net you 700, while diamonds only sell for 500.

In Gerudo Town, there’s a secret shop that you’ll talk you way into during the “Gerudo Secret Club” side quest. Inside, you’ll be able to buy the radiant set for 2,400 rupees and nine luminous stones. Upgrading the set at a Great Fairy fountain will take another 129 luminous stones.
