No matter how big or small the project, efficiency matters. That’s why Midwest Iron (MWI) is a leading one-stop shop for the manufacturing and installation of self-supporting, bolt-on aluminum balconies, steel stairs and railings, and miscellaneous metals. Our goal is to make our customers’ lives easier while providing them with the best products on the market.

You don’t have to be located in the Midwest to enjoy high-quality manufacturing, either. Midwest Iron’s services are available nationwide. Learn more about how we can help make your next commercial build seamless from start to finish.

A leader in modern manufacturing, Midwest Iron has been in business since 2006, specializing in commercial metal solutions. The business has two locations in Milwaukee, Wisconsin—one which focuses on steel fabrication and the other on aluminum.

Bolt-on aluminum balconies, steel stairs and railings, and miscellaneous metals are what Midwest Iron is best known for, in addition to GBC Safety Glow photo-luminescent egress life safety systems. However, Midwest Iron is also one of the only manufacturers with in-house, AAMA 2604-certified powder coating.

Pre-engineered, pre-fabricated, and pre-assembled products make for seamless planning and efficient installation. Midwest Iron’s number one goal is employee and customer satisfaction, maintaining a safe working environment and continually improving products to best meet clients’ needs.

For a high-quality building, you need high-quality materials. That’s why Midwest Iron specializes in top-of-the-line aluminum and steel when it comes to balcony and stair production. Aluminum is the top choice when it comes to balcony materials, due to its durability, weight, maintenance, and cost effectiveness. Meanwhile, steel offers a winning combination for stairs, thanks to its strength, durability, customizability, safety, and fire resistance.

Aluminum is a highly durable material that is resistant to corrosion, rust, and other forms of damage—making it an excellent choice for balconies, which are constantly exposed to the elements. It is also an easy material to clean and generally requires little to no maintenance.

If you’re looking to make a splash with your balcony design, aluminum is highly customizable and comes in a variety of styles and finishes. Midwest Iron also does in-house powder coating, allowing you to choose the exact balcony color you want. When it comes to construction, this lightweight material is easier to install and puts less stress on the building’s structure.

With frequent use, especially in buildings with heavy foot traffic, your staircases need to be durable above all else. That’s where steel comes in—an ideal material that can withstand a substantial weight in a heavily utilized space. Steel is less likely to crack, chip, or warp over time, which also makes it an excellent low-maintenance option.

Strong and stable, steel can support a heavy load without bending or flexing. Designed with safety in mind, steel staircases can be equipped with non-slip treads and railings to provide stability and prevent slips and falls. They are also highly fire-resistant and are a popular choice for both commercial and residential settings.

With Midwest Iron, the proof is in the pudding. In a recent project in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Midwest Iron supplied all of the stairs and 187 glass rail and aluminum balconies for the Ascent MKE luxury apartments. Officially the tallest mass timber structure in the world, the balconies for this building posed a unique challenge, due to its chosen finishes.

Quick on our feet and creative in our thinking, Midwest Iron found a way to rework the balcony attachment points and create a new system with new processes to keep the project moving forward. As with all of our projects, our goal is to remain fluid and maintain transparent communication to make sure our clients are 100% satisfied—which is one of our biggest strengths.

Midwest Iron’s handiwork can be seen all across the Midwest. One need not look further than Milwaukee to find a number of prime examples, from the Ascent MKE luxury apartments, the tallest mass timber structure in the world, to the Fiserv Forum, home to the Milwaukee Bucks NBA team.

Milwaukee is known for its high-quality manufacturing capabilities, and Midwest Iron is deeply ingrained into Milwaukee’s history. The company has completed thousands of jobs across the city—spaces that many people use, see, or experience every day.

This year, Midwest Iron is expanding nationally to work on commercial projects across the United States. With the help of Concept Co., an award-winning local agency specializing in digital business solutions, Midwest Iron is rolling out new branding, which includes a revamped brand story, identity, and logo, as well as a new website and fresh marketing campaigns.
